Charlotte, NC Transferees WELCOME!
U.S. Census Bureau data reveals that New York is the No. 1 source of newcomers to the nine-county Charlotte region from outside the Carolinas. An estimated 13,000 (out of our 80,000 transplants to Charlotte) move here from New York annually.
New York City, Long Island and areas in Upstate New York seem to be the largest concentration of transplants to the Charlotte region. Most have specific economic pressures and jobs seem to be the biggest lure for those moving to Charlotte.
Why New Yorkers and a large number of Floridians (among others) are moving to the Charlotte region:
• Charlotte’s economy
• Our ability to generate jobs; in fact over 80,000 new jobs were created in Mecklenburg County between 2000 and 2005
• Our mild climate with a true 4-season year
Charlotte is a beautiful city with the excitement of a big city with a small-town heart! We have 5-star restaurants, professional basketball and football, semi-pro baseball and hockey, fine arts and theatre, the home to world-renowned medical facilities and physicians, and a wonderful variety of ‘transplants’ from all over the world!
Most newcomers come from other counties in the Carolinas. Other areas with large numbers of people leaving for the Charlotte region include Miami, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Atlanta and Chicago.
